Coach LaHargoue Bio

LONE PEAK BASEBALL HEAD COACH

Coach Mike LaHargoue

Mike is no stranger to baseball.   He has played baseball most of his life including college baseball and was an outfielder and team captain.   When he got to BYU he shattered his knuckle and was unable to continue playing.   Later in his life he has played a lot of mens softball and was on the team that won the National Championship in 2003.   There were 180 teams from the United States and Canada that were in that tournament.

Mike has been coaching athletics for 23 years.   He has coached boy's soccer, girl's soccer, girl's softball, and boy's baseball.

While at Mountain View High School he coached softball for 5 years including an appearance in the state championship game, and he coached under Jeff Gustin for 6 years when Mountain View baseball cranked out stars like Casey Child, Ryan Roberts (who is an assistant coach at BYU), D.G. Nelson (who is head coach at Salt Lake Community College), and Mitch Jones (who is playing baseball for the Braves).   He also coached 3 outfielders who were drafted.

He coached the Highland All-stars for 4 years and they took state twice and runner-up once.   They have also taken 4th in region 2 years in a row.   They played teams from Guam, Hawaii, Arizona, and Northern and Southern California.

His personal accomplishments have been:

His overall coaching record is 463-106-4

Soccer record is 300-64-4

Softball coaching record 125-28

Baseball coaching record 38-14

As Mike was quoted in the paper - 20 years as a coach has prepared Mike for this opportunity.   Before he accepted the job he asked for a few days to try and line up some quality assistant coaches to help.   He has always said "I think I have a good rapport with parents and I know you can't please everyone and there's always going to be someone unhappy about playing time.   But that's why I want to surround myself with quality assistant coaches who can help out.   This is not my show.   I will rely on them to help me out a lot."

He is looking forward to his third year at the helm.
